Get Outside is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting physical and mental health through outdoor recreation. The vision of Get Outside is for families and friends to engage in outdoor recreational activities together throughout their lives, from childhood to adulthood. There is a growing tendency toward a sedentary lifestyle that is centered around technology, which has been shown to drastically affect both mental and physical health. This trend will continue to worsen with time, and its effects are predicted to in turn exponentially worsen. As a community, we must make a concerted effort to reverse this trend. Get Outside is absolutely dedicated to this cause.

The objectives we embrace are to:

  • Provide the community with opportunities to engage in a wide variety of outdoor recreational activities that they otherwise may not have the chance to engage in.
  • Provide education and training in a wide variety of outdoor recreational activities so that families and friends can recreate on their own, independent of Get Outside, throughout their lifetime.
  • Provide financial assistance to the community in overcoming cost barriers associated with many outdoor recreational activities.
We firmly believe that as we, the community, incorporate outdoor recreational experiences into our lives, we will see a marked improvement in our physical and mental health manifest by decreases in chronic diseases associated with sedentary lifestyles(hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, etc.), decreases in rates of anxiety and depression, substance abuse, and increases in quality of life, as a whole.

This position will have many duties, both administrative and hands-on. These duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Attend regular meetings as called by the Get Outside leadership. Generally, these meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month at 2 pm. The meeting is held in St. George, so you can join the meeting via FaceTime, etc.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute activities of Get Outside, as outlined and approved by the board. This will require coordination with the Director of Get Outside in St. George.
  • Your main role will be supportive to the advisers of Cedar High School and Canyon View High School. You will attend the regular meetings of the school clubs. You will also help plan, supervise, and support the activities of the Get Outside clubs in these schools.
  • Community outreach to recruit new members and coordinate volunteers for our events.
  • Fundraising, by way of grants and private sector contributions
  • Maintain the social media presence of Get Outside.
  • Fulfill any duties delegated by the board that are within the scope of the objectives and purposes of Get Outside.

Time Commitment: It is anticipated that you will spend an average of 10-15 hours per week performing these duties.

Qualifications:

  • Self-motivated and proactive
  • Honest
  • Proficiency in various outdoor recreational activities
  • Ability to plan and promote outdoor recreational events
  • Team worker
  • Enjoy interacting with and teaching kids and teens
  • Organizational skills and good time management
